Opportunity Overview

The advanced wireless internet market is a critical growth area for SK Telecom Americas (SKTA), and we're slated to address the evolving needs of US and global markets by deploying more expansive convergent services that will drastically change the way people use mobile services. Our primary channels of focus are:
  • Media
  • Cloud Computing
  • CleanTech
This position is your opportunity to join an elite team of technologists and business experts who will spearhead the creation of convergent mobile-web solutions. Your specific challenge is to analyze the information and communication technology landscape and from this "whiteboard" isolate the solutions that will connect synergistically to create a cohesive business strategy for SKTA. Your strategies will leverage SKTA's own experience and resources and draw on external partners to form a global ecosystem of alliances with the leading information communications operators across the world.

This type of opportunity -- rich in challenges and potential, and on the cutting edge of new ideas -- should appeal only to the most creative strategists, the highest velocity thinkers, and the most energetic leaders. In return for your investment, you will enjoy a coveted spot on a team that will reinvent a marketplace, and one that operates like an entrepreneurial startup, even though it is housed within $12 billion SK Telecom, which is part of $90 billion SK Group.

Our Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business Administration; an MBA is a plus.
  • Extensive (8+ years) of corporate strategy development experience, encompassing business development, product management, and marketing, within the information and communication technology (ITC) marketplace. For example, corporate development at an ITC industry leader, strategy consulting and/or finance experience at a top tier management consulting firm or investment bank.
    • Preference is given to candidates with a diversity of company and product experience.
    • Experience with M&A, strategic alliances and other partnerships
    • Experience should clearly demonstrate your ability to construct analysis to support strategic decisions, including leveraging knowledge and resources in other organizations in support of analyses.
  • The ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines, as well as to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • A flexible mindset and the ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Preferred but not required:
  • Bilingual English and Korean skills.

More About Your Role

This is an individual contributor role, but you will join a team of subject matter experts in telecommunications, market research, business incubation, and corporate development; add to that mix your expertise in ITC strategy, and you'll be in on the ground floor of projects that will become major growth engines for our organization.

SKTA has a history of innovation being the first company to launch a commercial CDMA mobile network technology in 1995, and we've been pushing the boundaries ever since. The company launched its 2.5G services in January of 2001, 1xEV-DO service in 2002, and HSDPA service in 2006.

To draw on an earlier analogy, you will assess the "dots" as they appear on the ITC "whiteboard" today, and refine and focus SKTA's corporate strategy on projects in Cloud Computing, CleanTech, Media, and potential adjacent domains, which range from infrastructure to enterprise solutions to consumer products. Involved on the execution side as well, you will participate in negotiating strategic partnerships, value-enhancing innovation, and global investments.

Your core areas of focus will include:
  1. Leveraging your analytical skills, industry knowledge and contacts to analyze development trends in the convergence arena and cultivate large inflow of organic and inorganic growth opportunities.
  2. Conducting necessary analyses for evaluating the opportunities, including value-added partnerships and/or investment opportunities with significant players via majority-stake or strategic minority-stake.
  3. Supporting senior leadership team in decision-making process and ensuring timely execution of deals.

Keys to Success

We expect that you will bring a high caliber of communication, negotiation and presentation skills to the table, but most important for our environment are your capacity for original thought, the tenacity to pursue the better ideas to their logical end, and the energy to execute on the best.

In addition, to be an outstanding Director you will:
  • Exercise not only your influencing skills, but also persistence and patience in getting buy-in from stakeholders.
  • Create and articulate a clear vision to generate enthusiasm for your projects in our highly matrixed environment.
  • Strike an appropriate balance between high-level strategic thinking and hands-on execution of the implementation details.
  • Deal effectively with priorities in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment; what happened yesterday is not necessarily what will happen tomorrow.
  • Manage effectively to multiple objectives, looking at issues from many different angles and weighing a range of factors and trade-offs in developing strategies.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we look forward to hearing from you.
We are an equal opportunity employer. EOE M/F/D/V
