As Technology Manager and pivotal member of our R&D team, you will use your research skills and in-depth experience in technology to analyze the current and future product and technology trends on an industry and company basis. Your in-depth understanding of the companies, products and technologies in the market will be used to help guide priorities and strategies for our technology development efforts.

What You'll Bring to the Table

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering; MBA is a plus.
• 5 - 8+ years of experience with convergent technologies (including those technologies identified above) and the following:
  • Mobile Wireless (MNO-backend-backhaul)
  • Web services
  • Software platform & applications
  • Emerging technologies (like Nano, Cloud, Smart Grid & SoC)
  • Global platforms
• Deep knowledge of mobile digital media business model and competitive landscape.
• A mix of advanced technology and strategic business acumen, plus the ability to understand and articulate technology strategies on an enterprise level.
• A strong presence and local economy participant, of being part of the networking functions on the West Coast of the USA, preferably in Silicon Valley.
• Ability to think creatively and strategically with a proven track record in aligning and driving innovative deals to successful completion.
• Outstanding communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Flexible mind set to adapt to a constantly changing environment.
• Superior proficiency in Microsoft office suite including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Technology Consultant or VC background with start-up technology firms is desirable.

More About Your Role

Much of your role will be defined once you are on board and we can assess the unique skill set and experiences you possess. You will report directly to the Vice President of R&D and join us at our Sunnyvale office, conveniently located in the heart of Silicon Valley, with an abundance of parks, shops and restaurants making it an ideal place to live, work & play.

Since ours is a start-up environment, some of your key challenges revolve around articulating and defining our technology strategy in an undefined, evolving environment. You'll also overcome cultural and communication differences to effectively build relationships with our HQ in Korea and ensure complete alignment with SK Telecom's overall strategic objectives.

At a high level, you'll spend about 60% of your time researching new technologies and visiting companies; another 30% serving as an advisor to the Development team and providing recommendations for the technology platform; and the remaining 10% collaborating with key stakeholders and synthesizing the research into digestible reports. Specifically, your responsibilities will include:

• Scanning & sourcing of new technologies and related companies and articulating the results of analyses and reports internally and to partnering organizations.
• Providing technology insights and recommendations in the key areas of mobile technologies and related convergent service solutions.
• Identifying new technology opportunities and making recommendations for specific partnerships and/or investment opportunities for R&D that will allow us to reach our strategic global goals.
• Participating as a member of the strategy development team of analysts and business developers.
• Participating in global standards committees.
